snow and other things

It did snow in Paris yesterday morning, and when we went out, there was still a little bit of snow on the side of the pavements. In French and in English, there's only one word for "snow". But in other languages, they have several words. In Romanian, they have a word for the snow that's falling, and another one for the snow on the ground. I like that. In Caledonian, they have dozens of words to say coconut. The coconut that's green, on the tree, good to eat, cut, juicy, cooked... How fantastic is that! I realize that I am beginning to simplify my language in French, as a mimicry to English, where a lot of times one single word qualifies many different things. Take chair, for instance. Here in our home, a chair can be an armchair, a baby chair, a bouncy chair, a baby car chair, a kitchen chair...while in French, we use fauteuil, chaise haute, transat, siège-auto, chaise. Yes, it goes faster, it's easier, but to be frank, I find that a little depressing. Because, on the other hand, there are some languages where people used to have different words for different things, and lost them. Like, in some languages, foot and leg is now the same. It's like species disappearing, it's sad to witness...

Anyway, changing subject completely, I was tagged a while ago by Polly, who chose me as one of her five favorite blogs, which I feel totally honoured for. In return, I will play the game which consist in doing this: If you were tagged and would like to join, write a post with the links to the person who tagged you and to 5 of your favorite little-known blogs and inform those you tagged. That's all.

So, here are five of the little-known or not-so-little-known blogs that I enjoy reading. They are all owned by lovely women.

Mamman uuni (the sweetest place on the Internet)
Des brimborions (photography and life)
French Cannes Cannes (the everyday tribulations of an American - now French- in Paris, and my very first blogger friend)
hello Paper (photography and life)
un courant d'air dans la maison (design, vintage, home decoration)
Hey Jude (songs of a mother)

Have a lovely day ♥
