the day after the party

Hello there! This is a very tired woman writing these lines.

When my daughter first brought up the idea of having a pyjama party to celebrate her birthday, I thought: great idea, plus it will be less work for me than organising a regular party with 10 friends. Wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. But maybe it has to do with the fact that I spent hours cleaning the apartment (I always jump on occasions like this to do a springtime cleaning - what's wrong with me?)...

In the end it was a lot of fun. The girls put on make up, danced a little, giggled a lot, decorated their cupcakes (see crazy decorations bellow), made their own pizzas, ate a lot of stuff (including "pigs in a blanket", chips, candies, and a few pieces of cucumber and carrots), played "Action ou Vérité" (Do or Dare), connected with their DS games and went to sleep very very very late.

Ok, let's get a few details on what really killed me about this whole party. After all, it's my blog and I can tell you, my friends, what you should expect if you ever have girls like mine over, right? Well, at about 11:00, I sent everybody to bed, which was already pretty late. They were quietly playing with their DS when I came back in the room to see how they were doing. Two hours and a half later, which takes us to around 1:20, I came back and found them sitting on their beds like they were waiting for the bus. "On sait pas quoi faire" ("we don't know what do to"), said the lovely angels. I suggested: "How about getting some sleep?" I left the room thinking that they would soon be fast asleep and went to bed myself. Two hours later, yes my friends, that was around 3:15, my daughter, followed by her friends, knocked at our door because they couldn't sleep. The big girls were scared because they had been telling scary stories and now they couldn't close an eye.
Long story short, it took them aproximately another hour to completely fall asleep, took me two hours to completely go back to sleep (I was, how would you say?... mad, yes, that's it). Two hours later, which, if you followed properly the story, leads us to about 7:00, I heard footsteps and someone going to the bathroom. Obviously that wasn't Swann. At 8:00, when Swann nicely woke up from his good and quiet night of sleep, the girls were already awake like you have no idea.

Conclusion: pyjama parties are a lot of fun, no question about that. But, from a mother's point of vue, they just knock you out.

Side note n°1: Never ever plan a pyjama party when the hour changes: we lost an hour this morning, and I'm still in mourning.
Side note n°2: Don't plan anything the day after a pyjama party, but a good nap.

I'm off to visit my sister and her two young kids (that's for side note n°2), it's already late and I'm not even sure I can make it to the metro station...
But I must be insane because if I had to do it again... I probably would! (I know I would)

Well well well, have a great and hopefully sunny Sunday everybody!

Oh Annabelle, I so know how you feel!! So familiar! Maisie and her friends are just the same - connecting their Ds’s etc...I hope you can recover soon. Here’s to a quieter week! :) x

Thank you FCC, Loes and Kerry!
Ooh I'm exhausted but somehow I made it through the day :)
Kerry, isn't it funny to see how quiet Maisie and Florina look on picture and how "animated" they are in real life? ;) Oh la la, and wait till they are 16...

Annabelle, you may be insane to do it again, but I'm pretty sure the girls had such a fab time they'll be expecting it all again next year! And because you're such an obliging, wonderful mama, you'll agree! x

I actually feel quite exhausted just reading that... Being tired is a recurring theme for us mothers I think?
